Chapel Hill Prefab by Dustin Ehrlich

WIELER has constructed a new modular custom home near Chapel Hill, NC, designed by architect Dustin Ehrlich.  This beautiful home mixes stone, wood, stainless steel and rusted corrugated metal to create a modern yet grounded living space.  Drawing inspiration from the surrounding aging tobacco barns, this 2,007 square foot home blends the line between indoor and outdoor spaces with 1,513 square feet of strategically placed outdoor decks and patios.

Upcoming Event: Seattle Green Festival

The Seattle Green Festival starts this Saturday and runs through the weekend at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center.  As a joint project between Global Exchange and Co-op America, Green Festivals are a celebration of what’s working in communities for people, businesses and the environment.

The Green Festival craze began back in 2005 in San Francisco and has quickly bloomed to include Chicago, Washington D.C. and now Seattle.  Hosted by the City of Seattle and led by the Office of Sustainability and the Environment, the Seattle Green Festival will be highlighting some of the best green products and services the Northwest has to offer.

Take in more than 350 exhibits and hear more than 125 speakers on 5 stages.  Let’s make Seattle proud by participating in our first of many Green Festivals.

Rain Pod: Interesting…but is it useful?

David L’Hôte has designed a rainwater collection system that will change the way people think of rain barrels.  If you are like me, most of us envision small scale catchment devices to be in 55-60 gallon recycled barrels that had previously stored imported food.  We all know of these right?…the orange, blue, white or black plastic barrels with the bug netting laid over a screw top lid and a water spicket at the bottom.  The Rainpod is a design concept that not only has a unique aesthetic but also a changing shape.

Tropical Prefab: Residencia RR by Andrade Morettin

Architect Andrade Morettin has designed a modern, prefabricated home that lightly integrates into the sensitive tropical landscape of São Paulo, Brazil.  Residencia RR responds to its local environment by resting on 75cm-high concrete pillars resulting in minimal site disturbance and low ecological impact.  A six-meter high outer steel shell protects inhabitants from heavy sun and rain while allowing natural ventilation through each living space.
